Well, before actually upgrading the device with the new iOs, it’s advisable to have a back up. So, let’s see how this back up can be done?
Get the back up before getting iOS version updated?
Before initializing the update process, make sure that the iPhone, iPad or iPod touch is completely backed up using iCloud or the computer with the help of iTunes. In case, anything goes wrong then this data will be useful to you or else you may lose the complete data.
To get the complete data from scratch is really a huge problem. There may arise a need to re-install apps, add email accounts, synch contacts and add huge logins as well as passwords. One can take the complete back up using iTunes.
For this the computer needs to be authorized and it will ask you for sign in process to take the back up of your apps. iCloud offers 5GB of free storage and in case this is not enough, you can buy extra space in case you don’t wish to opt for back up process via iTunes.
Update the Apps: Some of the apps may not work with the latest version hence it is necessary to update the apps. The update needs atleast 1.3 GB of storage for temporary storage of downloaded files during the time of update.
The available space can be known by selecting Settings>General Usage. The complete list of apps will show you the ones that are stored in the Phone storage. The more storage will be of Photo Apps which is filled with snaps and videos.
All these can be transferred to Dropbox or we can say Cloud storage and then these can be deleted from the PC as this will free up the space. Most of the space is used up by videos.
Now download the iOS update and then touch the option “Install to upgrade iOS and then do as per the on screen instructions. Yes, one can also update it with the help of iTunes. You must have the latest iTunes and then connect your device which will then show the message stating that a software update is available.
Click on the update and you will be asked to download and install the update. The device should not be disconnected till the time complete process is finished.
